عمل اللواء سراج الدين الروبى في جهاز الشرطة لمدة ثلاثون عاما وتخصص في أعمال الأمن العام “بحث جنائي ” أكتسب خبرة كبيرة في هذا المجال تولى من خلالها رئيس الأنتربول المصري ثم عضوا في اللجنة التنفيذية العليا لمنظمة الأنتربول العالمية في فرنسا وأنتخب نائبا لرئيس المنظمة ورئيسا للجنة التطوير الأستراتيجى للأنتربول لهذا القرن ثم مدعيا عاما عسكريا للشرطة المصرية حتى إحالته للتقاعد في 2001 .
مارس العمل في مجال الدفاع عن المواطنين والضباط في سائر المحاكم المصرية إلى جانب كونه محاضرا في العديد من الجهات .
وأخيرا تم تعيينه في منصب محافظ المنيا بدلا من اللواء سمير سلام استجابة لرغبة الاحزاب والقوى السياسية التى كانت ترفض بقاء سلام محافظا للمنيا .

دبلوم مكافحة الجريمة بالأساليب العلمية الحديثة من المركز القومي للبحوث الاجتماعية والجنائية بالقاهرة – أمتياز الأول عام 1983.
دبلوم العلوم الجنائية من كلية الدراسات العليا بأكاديمية الشرطة – أمتياز الأول عام 1983 .
دبلوم القانون العام – كلية الحقوق – جامعة عين شمس – جيد – الأول عام 1984.
دبلوم الاقتصاد السياسي – كلية الحقوق – جامعة عين شمس – أمتياز الأول عام 1985.
