إن الرسالة التي نقدمها اليوم للمهتمين بالسياسة والدولة ورجالات السلطة، بل لكل المهتمين بتراث ابن الخطيب أو القرن 8هـ/14م، إفادة عظيمة من جانبين؛ فبالإضافة إلى سياقها الخاص الذي يعتبر ثمرة كتابتها، ودافع خطها، في إطار العلاقات السياسية بين رجالات الدولة (النصرية والمرينية)؛ هناك سياق عام هو برأينا أعظم لزماننا، وهو ما أراده ابن الخطيب، وإلا لما أقدم على كتابة كل تفاصيلها؛ إذ التعميم في مثلها كاف لتقديم معانيها لغيره من معاصريه، لكنه دقق حيث فصل، وأشار وأجمل، وصرح وأكمل، وألمح وأتمم؛ فكان للرسالة قوتها وقيمتها في كل العصور، وليس في زمان ابن الخطيب فقط؛ إذ النظر في مضامينها بما قدمنا لها من دراسة وافية في بعض جوانبها، لنحسب أنها تقدم لزماننا ما يكفي للنظر بمآلات الأمور عند أصحاب السياسة وخدام الدول؛ فهي ((الموعظة بلبابها، ذات النصيحة الصريحة التي يتعين على كل عاقل خصوصا من يريد خدمة الملوك التمسك بأسبابها)).
