تمثل مادة هذا الكتاب رسالة لكثير من الحركات الإسلامية: كي تنظر إلى نفسها وتراجع مواقفها وأطروحاتها وغاياتها ونواياها، من أجل غد افضل. فجزء من الحركة الإسلامية اليوم، نعرفهم كما نعرف أنفسنا، ليسوا ملائكيين منزهين عن النقد. فلهم نصيب من آفة الكراهية والاستئصال والتآمر والجمود... فلن يجدي تأجيل الأزمة والالتفاف عليها وتبني خطط المفسدين وتكتيكاتهم في شيء. وليس ذلك بمانعهم من ساعة الاستحقاق الكبرى. هذا الكتاب لا يستثني هذه الحركات من مسؤولية ما نحن فيه وما نحن عليه اليوم من ضعف وخور. فبعضهم تورط في شطط الإرهاب ولا معناه... وبعضهم تورط في تمجيد الطغيان والتنكر للأحرار والمظلومين، كما حصل مع نظام بغداد المخلوع، يوم رأيت فيه بعض هذه الحركات المضللة، مخلصاً إسلامياً... وبعضهم استكان إلى مصالحه وذاق عسيلة المصالح الدنيا لما عاقر اللعبة السياسية في إيقاعها الأدنى. وإذا ما عدنا لمتن هذا الكتاب لوجدنا أنه ينقسم إلى أربعة أقسام. يتفرد القسمين الأول والثاني بمدخلين وتطبيقات عامة. يُعنى مدخل القسم الأول بعرض رؤية جديدة للفكر الإسلامي، تحدد ما سمى التبني الحضاري والتجديد الجذري، ثم أردف بتطبيقات، في مواضيع شتى لكنها مورد بلوى الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر، وأجزاء من إشكاليات العلاقة بين هذا الفكر والحداثة. أما القسم الثاني فهو مخصص لبحث التأويل كآلية منهجية لمشروع التبني الحضاري والتجديد الجذري. فكان المدخل تعريفاً بالمنهج وإشكالياته، ثم أردف بتطبيقات من موضوعات شتى لكن الجامع بينها انضمامها لقائمة إشكاليات الحداثة وأيضاً لكونها محل بلوى في طريق التبني الحضاري والتجديد الجذري. أما القسم الثالث، فيشير إلى أن للتبني الحضاري والتجديد الجذري مقاصد أخلاقية تخرجه من أن يكون مجرد رياضة ذهنية تتجه نحو المتاهات المفتوحة. أما القسم الرابع، فهو يقدم رؤية في ما هو واقع اليوم وما ينبغي تداركه، وتحديداً ما يتصل بموضوع واقع ومستقبل الحركات الإسلامية وموضوعة الإسلام والعنف في ضوء ما حدث وما يحدث اليوم.
