هذا الكتاب (كيمياء للهواة) جاء في ثلاثة عشر وحدة, وهو يختلف عن الكتابين السابقين ,حيث كان ترتيب المواد في الكتابين السابقين حسب الموضوع, ولكن في هذا الكتاب فضّلت ترتيب المواضيع حسب طبيعة المادة حيث اعتقد أنه أكثر فائدة, وأسرع في الوصول إلى التجربة المطلوبة. وللعلم فإن اسم هذا العلم (الكيمياء) هو اسم عربي حيث يقول الخوارزمي في كتابه "مفاتيح العلوم": (اسم هذه الصناعة: الكيمياء، وهو عربي، واشتقاقه من: كمَى يكمي، إذا ستر وأخفى، ويقال: كمى الشهادةَ يكميها، إذا كتمها).
