القيادة الإدارية هى النشاط الذى يمارسه القائد الإدارى فى مجال اتخاذ القرار وإصدار الأوامر والإشراف الإدارى على الآخرين باستخدام السلطة الرسمية وعن طريق التأثير والاستمالة بقصد تحقيق هدف معين والقيادة الإدارية بهذا المفهوم تجمع بين استخدام السلطة الرمسة وبين التأثير على سلوك الآخرين واستمالتهم للتعاون لتحقيق الهدف . كما يمكن القول بأن القيادة الإدارية ما هى إلا ممارسة القائد الإدارى لسلطاته فى أعمال التخطيط والتنظيم والتوجيه والتسويق والرقابة بقصد تحقيق أهدافها محددة والقيادة بهذا المفهوم تصير فناُ ومقدرة لا يستطيع كل شخص ممارستها بل هى مقدرة وموهبة يتمتع بها القادة الإداريون . لذلك فهى وإن كانت تحتاج لسلطة رسمية يمارس من خلالها القائد الإدارى اختصاصاته إلا ان السلطة الرسمية هنا ليست غاية فى حد ذاتها بل هى وسيلة تمكن القائد الإدارى من ممارسه اختصاصاته لان السلطة الرسمية إذا لم تجد قبولاً من الأشخاص الذين بتعامل معهم القائد الإدارى فلا جدوى منها ، فالقهر والبطش لا يجدى فى امكان تحقيق الأهداف .
