الكتاب من ترجمة، تحقيق فرماج اليسوعي. يقول الكاتب في مقدمة كتابه بأن الكتاب إنما هو الواسطة العظمى لنوال الخلاص الأبدي وكل النعم المرغوبة من الله. وهذه الواسطة هي الصلاة، مضيفاً بأن كتابه هذا وإن كان صغير الحجم، إلا أنه تعب كثيراً في تأليفه، وهو يعتبره عظيم الإفادة لكل صنف من أصناف البشر، بل بإمكانه القول بتحقيق أنه فيما بين جميع الأعمال الروحية لا يوجد ولا يمكن أن يكون شيء أكثر إفادة وأشد إحتياجاً من واسطة الصلاة لنوال الخلاص الأبدي. ثم بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فالكتاب يضم تأملات دوَنَها المؤلف يراها مناسبة ليستخدمها في المواعظ والإرشادات، أولئك الكهنة الذين لا يملكون من الكتب في هذا المجال سوى القليل، أو أنه وربما ليس لديهم الوقت لمراجعة وإستخلاص مثل تلك الصلوات والتأملات، التي هي من شهادات الكتاب المقدس ومن أقوال الآباء القديسين، معقباً أنه لو كانت تلك الصلوات والتأملات مختصرة، إلا أنها ذات قوة وفاعليه بما فيه الكفاية لأجل إستخدام ألفاظها المعبرة في مثل تلك المواعظ. وهو ينبه الكهنة بأن كلاّ من التأملات، والتي عدها ثلاث، تصور لهم عظة كاملة. ولأجل هذه الغاية فقد إجتهد من خلال أخذه من مصادر عدة لمؤلفين متعددين والتي تضم أقوال كبار رجال الكهنوت. والعبارات التي إنتقاها وجد أنها أكثر تعبيراً وأكثر وقعاً في نفس السامع.
