في هذه الرواية، يبني جاسم الرصيف عمله على استغوار الأبعاد الإنسانية لمعركة بنجوين، التي دارت رحاها في شمال العراق بين الجيشين العراقي والإيراني، والتي سقط فيها أكثر من أربعين ألف قتيل من الطرفين، تفسخت جثثهم وتركت فرائس لآكلات الجيف من الحيوانات البرية، دون أن يتجرأ أحد على إخلائها. وحجابات الجحيم إذ تشكل امتداداً لروايات جاسم الرصيف الأخرى المشغولة كلها بموضوعة الحرب، والحالات الإنسانية التي تقف في مواجهة الموت، فإنها تعرض بطريقة بانورامية تجريدات إنسانية على خنادق القتال المتقدمة، وتدين الحرب أياً كان شعارها وتنحاز بشكل مطلق إلى الحياة. وصف المؤلف "حجابات الجحيم" رواية تتحدث عن معركة "بنجوين" شمال العراق الجبلي، خريف عام 1983 والتي استمرت أكثر من أربعين يوماً متوالياً تبادل فيها الجيشان العراقي والإيراني سبع هجمات وسبع هجمات مضادّة فانتشرت جثث القتلى التي بلغت أكثر من 20 ألف بين الجيشين وظلت فرائس لآكلات الجيف من الطيور والحيوانات البحرية حتى العام التالي. "بانوراما" للحرب وإدانة مطلقة للحروب من خلال أربع شخصيات معبّرة وفريدة عن أديان وقوميات عراقية مختلفة.
