نهج البلاغة هو دعاء يتضمن ما كان يريده الإمام علي رضي الله عنه للأمة والإنسان، ففيه الصورة الواقعية والصورة الطموحة للأمة والإنسان، صورة الإنسان على وضعه الكائن والصورة التي يجب أن يكون عليها دفعاً له نحو التقدم، لذا جاء خطاب أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام، لهذه الأمة متضمناً لأكثر العلوم التي تحتاجها الأمة وهي في طريقها إلى الحياة المتصاعدة. لكن لم يأتي خطابه متضمناً لجميع أجزاء العلوم، بل مقدار ما تحتاجه الأمة فقط لأن ذلك ليس من شأن خطب الإمام أن تعلم الناس علم النفس وعلم الاجتماع وفلسفة التاريخ، فهناك مجالات محددة وميادين خاصة لهذه العلوم، وهناك طريق آخر لعرضها ليس هو بالطبع طريق الخطابة والرسالة والوصاية، لكن هذا لا يعني أن ليس في خطابات أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه ووسائله ووصاياه تلميحات بل حتى توضيحات لتلك العلوم لضرورتها في تقدم الأمة.
ومحاولة المؤلف في هذا المجال جاءت لجمع تلك الإشارات والقطع المتناثرة التي ذكرها أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه ومحاولة تأطيرها بإطار علمي يعطي للدارسين والباحثين مفاتيح يستطيعون من خلالها التعميق في تلك النصوص لاستخراج المزيد من القواعد والقوانين العلمية عملاً في مجال تخصصه.
