ليس جمع قصائد بومدين بن سهلة هذه هو العمل الأدبي الأول أو الوحيد للأستاذ الراحل الحاج محمد الحبيب حشلاف، بل إنه قام بباعث من غيرته المشهودة على تراثنا الشعبي بتدوين نصوص ’ الحوفي’ أو الترانيم النسوية الجزائرية ثم نصوص الملحون الذي تفتقت به القرائح خلال المقاومة الشعبية للإستعمار الفرنسي..إن أغلب قصائد الشيخ بومدين بن سهلة المتضمنة في هذا الكتاب، تغنى في كل أنحاء الجزائر، وقد اختلفت رواياتها من منطقة إلى أخرى ومن نمط غنائي إلى آخر، وتنوع جراء ذلك رسمها الإملائي، وهو الأمر الذي أضفى صعوبة جمة على مهمة الكاتب في تنقيحها و إعدادها للإصدار، وهي منظومات انتشر تناقلها خلال الربع الأخير من القرن الحادي عشر والنصف اتلأول من القرن الثاني عشر للهجرة وقد نال منها صاحبها لقب ’ الشيخ التلمساني’ فكانت وما زالت المرجع والنموذج لمن جاء بعده من الشعراء الغنائيين في المغرب العربي الكبير.
