توارت فكرة دراسة اللون فيالصورة الشعرية خلف الاهتمام بالصورة الأدبية وبنائها، ومكوناتها وأنواعها، وشعرائها، وقل من وجه عنايته إلى دراسة الألوان في الصورة، لا لوجودها في ذاتها، بل لاتخاذها مدخلا لفهم الصورة الشعرية، وفي محاولة الوقوف على أحد المكونات الحسية للصورة، وهو اللون نجد اتساع مجال الرؤية الفنية أمام الباحث ليشمل اللون في وروده منفرداً، ووروده مزدوجاً أو مركباً، أي ممتزجاً بغيره من الألوان، ومتصلاً بغيره من المحسوسات: المتحركة والساكنة، المسموعة والمرئية والملموسة، ثم ورود اللون المحسوس من خلال المجرد، ثم ما يثيره اللون من إيحاء يثري دلالة اللفظة، ومعنى الجملة، ومن تراسل ينتقل بالمجالات إلى ما وراء إطارها المحدود، إلى آخر ما هنالك من أمور تجعل للون توظيفاً رمزياً، ولكن نتجنب مزالق الحكم الذاتي، أو التأثر المعارض، أو الانفعال الموقوت، عمدنا إلى منهج فني إحصائي، فحددنا مجال البحث لمن اخترنا من الشعراء، ثم قمنا بإحصاء ورود الألوان لديه، مميزين بين التعبير المباشر وغير المباشر، واقفين على الظواهر المستنبطة من الدراسة والتحليل وقراءة دلالات الرمز، حددنا من الشعراء (محمود سامي البارودي، نزار قباني، وصلاح عبد الصبور) أما عن فصول الدراسة وخطة البحث فيها فكانت كالتالي:-
الفصل الأول: التلوين بين الفن والفكر، الفصل الثاني: الرسم بالكلمات بين الظاهر والباطن، الفصل الثالث: لوحة التصوير بين اللونين المركب والمنفرد، الفصل الرابع: ظواهر.
