نبذة النيل والفرات: إن تاريخ الشخصيات السياسية المتميزة، ونشاطهم أمر جدير بالإهتمام، ونوري "باشا السعيد" رئيس وزراء العراق أحد هذه الشخصيات البارزة، فكان مالئ الدنيا وشاغلها فقد قضى نصف قرن من حياته في عالم السياسة، إذ كان خلالها أكثر رجال الساسة العربية دهاءً ونفوذاً وأمضاهم كلمة وأشدهم قوة وصلابة. كانت شخصيته نادرة في تاريخ العراق الحديث، إذ حاول بدهائه أن يحقق التوازن بين المصالح البريطانية والمطامح الوطنية للشعب العراقي، وبين أبناء العشائر وأبناء المدن، كما لعب دوراً مميزاً في تسيير دفة الحكم الملكي والنهوض به، بالرغم مما شاب تلك الفترة من عقبات وعثرات وإنقلابات وإنتفاضات، اتسمت بالسخونة والتصفيات الجسدسة أحياناً. إلاّ أن خاتمة هذا الرجل موضع هذا الكتاب كانت فاجعة هائلة لم يسجل التاريخ من قبل ذلك مثيلاً لها في نهايتها المأساوية.
