رسالة إلى القارئ عندما بدأت بكتابة هذه الرواية كنت دائم الاستحضار لشهرزاد، تلك التي فتنت القرّاء من شرق الأرض وغربها. وكانت هي دون شك منبع الرواية الأول، فأمست فصولها قصصا تزاحمت لتشكل كيانا سرديا، يخوض فيما قبل الليلة الأولى من رائعة الدهر «ألف ليلة وليلة »، فهي رؤية متجددة لعالم الملك «شهريار » ورفيقة لياليه وجليسة دهره الأميرة شهرزاد، إنها بثّ الرّوح لتراث حي ومستمر. إنّ رواية «أحلام شهريار » هي - على ما أعتقد- تلك الفصول المنسية، النائمة في الذاكرة، والتي لم تذكرها كتب التّاريخ، إنها الأحداث الغائبة عن قصة ألف ليلة وليلة، إنها ميلاد شهريار وطفولته، وجزء غير هيّنٍ من شبابه. إنها – كذلك- أحلام شهرزاد التي لم تُذْكر بالاسم، وقد صالت وجالت على مساحة هذا العمل الروائي. لقد جاءت فكرة الرواية من سؤال جال طويلا في ذاكرتي منذ أولى قراءاتي لألف ليلة وليلة، منذ أن كنت طفلا في عمر شهريار الفتى. وهذا السؤال كان ولا يزال يطارد أسئلة أخرى:
