مجموعة "قتل الأرانب" للقاص الإنجليزيّ جون ريفنسكروفت اثنتا عشرة قصة يربط بينها الحديث عن الفقد والضياع بكل أنواعه من فقد للحبيب، وفقد المستقبل أو الماضي، وفقد اليقين، وفقد الحب، وفقد الهوية، وذلك من خلال اللعب علي أوتار عديدة ماديةً تارة وفلسفية أو معنوية تارة أخرى. وهذا السرد القصصي يتركز حول علاقات بين أشخاص غير سعداء، وأشخاص عايشوا تجربة الفقد والخسارة، وآخرين مرت بحياتهم تجارب أليمة تركت في نفوسهم مرارة الألم، إلا أن الرسالة التي ربما يحملها الكتاب هي أنه يريد أن يجعل القارئ يجد مساحة من الأمل بل ويخرج بشعور من هذه المجموعة القصصية مفاده أن الحياة رغم صعوبتها وتعنتها بوسعها أن تكون، بين وقت وآخر، شيئا مَجيدًا رائعًا، شيئا يجب أن نرعاه ونعتز به. وربما يشير إلى أن البشر سواءٌ في كل أركان الأرض، بصرف النظر عن موقعهم، وجنسهم، وعِرقهم، ودينهم، وأن ما يوّحدنا أهمُّ بكثير جدًّا مما يشتتنا ويقسّمنا، ومن ثم يجب أن نعمل على الاحتفال بحقيقة أننا مخلوقات غير مكتملة، سوى أننا جميعا نتشارك في شيء أهم ألا وهو الانسانية التي إن تخلينا عنها ستصبح الحياة غير محتملة وموحشة .
