لقد كتب الكثيرون عن قصة مجنون ليلى في الأدب العربي منذ العصر الأموي حتى اليوم، وشكك البعض في صحة وجود شاعر عاشق في العصر الأموي اسمه "قيس بن الملوح"، فلماذا يتجرأ واحدٌ مثلي على خوض مثل هذا البحر الواسع؟ وماذا عسى أن أقدّم للقارئ من معلومات لم يتطرق لها من سبقني؟...
الجواب على ذلك هو أنني سأسبح في بحر ألفته، وهو الطب، حاملاً معي معلومات وتقنيات تساعدني في الغوص إلى أعماقه، أتمعن في درره ولآلئه، مستعيناً بميولي الفطرية إلى الشعر والأدب، مسخراً معرفتي المهنية، وهي الطب، في دراسة أشعار تعبر عن أعراض جسدية ونفسية لأمراض واضحة قد لا يدركها غير أديب متخصص في الطب أو طبيب متعمق في الشعر والأدب.
ومن ذلك المنطلق شرعت في تشخيص أمراضٍ أصيب بها ذلك الشاعر العاشق المجنون "قيس بن الملوح"، وبالأخص أعراض تصلب شرايين القلب الذي أودى بحياته.
وقبل أن أبدأ البحث والمناقشة، سأسرد أهم وقائع قصة مجنون ليلى حتى يتمكن القارئ من متابعة مناقشتي للقصة ووقائعها، وما يهمني في نهاية المطاف من هذا البحث ليس مناقشة التفاصيل المختلفة لقصة قيس وليلى والخلافات الكثيرة في حقيقة الروايات والزيادات عليها، ولكن ما تعلّق منها بصحة قيس، صحته الجسمية والعقلية، وهل كان قيس مجنوناً حقّاً؟ وهل أصيب بمرض عضوي في قلبه؟ وما سبب وفاته؟.
ولكون هذه الدراسة مرتكزةً بالدرجة الأولى على أشعار "قيس بن الملوح"، أو المنسوبة إليه، وتحليلها وإستنباط ما فيها من أفكار وإنطباعات، فإني سأسهب في ذكر أشعار قيس مع سردي للقصة ووقائعها، ثم سأعود لمناقشة بعض الأبيات في الفصول اللاحقة.
فقصة مجنون ليلى خلدتها أشعار المجنون الرقيقة والمؤثرة، لذلك سأستعرض أشعاره إستعراضاً وافياً في جميع الفصول، حيث إن الأشعار تكشف الأفكار وطبيعة الحياة عند العرب خاصة قبل الإسلام وأوائل العصر الإسلامي عندما كان التدوين نادراً، ونقل الأخبار والروايات يعتمد على الذاكرة والنقل الشفوي، فحفظ الشعر ونقله أسهل من حفظ النثر، فالشعر آنذاك هو سجل حياة العرب وحضارتهم ومعتقداتهم وتاريخهم، وهو أرقى فنون العرب التي تفاخروا بها واعتنوا بها.
