قررت السير بمحاذاة السياج الطبيعي حتى وصلت حسب اعتقادي إلى نهاية العالم...، كما كان يرددها أجدادي، فيوماً كنت لا أزال صغيرةً، عندما نطقها العراف لأحد الأولاد، "إن الامتداد الطبيعي للقرية، حصل إما إلى الفردوس وإما إلى الجحيم المباشر وإنه لا وجود لعالم آخر غير هذا الذي نعيش فيه، وتجاوز الحدود تحد لإرادة الإله الذي خلق هذه الزمرة من الحيوانات، وامتصاص الدم المسال للإله المقدس". وبسرعة المقاتلين سارت كالأشباح المدربين على التخفي والقادرين على مفاجأة خصومهم، فانتقلت من شجرة لأخرى بسرعة يصعب معها التعرف على القاتل فتكون هذه الميزة عنصر قوة للمهاجمين. ركضتُ بكل ما أوتيت من قوة، وتوقفت... قبل أن أتابع جري، وأنتصب كالعمود إلى جذع شجرة فتختفي ملامحي.... وأصبح عنصراً من عناصر الغابة. لم يراودني شك أني سأكون جزءاً من حكاية، لكل سلالة البشر، لم قفزت في المكان الفارغ؟ لقد تجاوزت كل الممنوع، وفجأةً انكسر أحد الأغصان، فألقيت نفسي في منطقة ليست منطقتي فهي جزء من العالم الآخر، ولأول مرة جفل قلبي ورمشت عيناني...! كان ذلك امتداداً للأرض، لم تكن هناك ظلمة أبدية، كما كانت تروي لي جدتي "إنها أرض يطلع عليها النور، فلا يتوقف عمودها المتلألأ".
