ها أنا من جديد ولدت في غابات مظلمة، قومي هم أولئك الذين دمّروا روما الحزينة فكم من المدن يلفُّها النسيان، وكم مدينة تبقى صامدة ليس بقوتها بل بأولئك الذين يشهرون السيوف لحمايتها. تتقدم روما الظالمة كل المدن الحالمة التي تنتمي إلى جيلها والتي حاوَلت أن تقاوم لم تستطع أن تصل إلى ذروة المجد الذي نالته تلك المدينة، لقد جاء البرابرة إلى حدود المملكة الجديدة، وحاصروها ومرّوا بشوارعها بل وصلوا إلى ذروة المجد في أحد أقبيتها. رفعتها مجالس الشيوخ وأغلقها قيصر القتيل في ساحة البرلمان.
أنا فينيق الذي يعيش من جديد بين الرماد، أنهض شاباً قوياً ولصدفتي فإنّ ذاكرتي لا تزال طريّة، تبحث عن هوز التي سرقها الظلام ولم تعد، ما تزال هي الشغف الذي أدور حوله في أيامي معلنا أسراري وقوتي، ورحيل هوز أفقدني صوابي، وجعلني منكباً على عملي في كسب مهارات تجعلني أخوض معركتي من أجل الحقيقة الأليمة، التي لم أتقبلها يوماً. لقد كان النهر جافاً فعبرته إلى جبال شاهقة كستها الثلوج وهي نفسها التي أغرقتني يوماً وضمتني في أحضانها حتى وصلت إلى يوم ذاكرتي مع ديدا. آه ما أزال أبحث عن عشيرتي، وما تزال طريقي طويلة لا يمكن أن تصل إلى نهاية.
