يتناول هذا الكتاب دراسة سياسة باكستان الإقليمية انطلاقاً من منهج يعتمد الوصف والتحليل معاً، ليعكس مراحل تطورها ونسقها خلال الفترة المذكورة. فباكستان دائبة الحركة في البحث عن دور قيادي ضمن دوائر إقليمية متداخلة تحيط بها. وهدفها من ذلك تأكيد قدراتها للدول الأخرى كقوة إقليمية كبرى، في حين تستمر الهند في تأكيد أنها قوة كبرى لها الحق في أن تكون عضواً دائماً في مجلس الأمن. ويعتمد الحديثي المنهج الإقليمي لوصف سياسية باكستان الخارجية وتحليلها ضمن الدوائر الإقليمية لها، وهي جنوب آسيا حيث الهند، وغرب آسيا حيث إيران وتركيا، فضلاً عن منطقة الخليج العربي، ووسط آسيا والقوقاز حيث الجمهوريات الإسلامية الست المستقلة عن الاتحاد السوفياتي، إضافة إلى الصين، حليف باكستان التقليدي، مشيراً إلى متغيرات هذه السياسة في ظل انتهاء الحرب الباردة. يتضمن الكتاب أربعة فصول وخاتمة. الفصل الأول هو: التأصيل النظري للسياسة الإقليمية، والثاني هو: التأصيل في سياسة باكستان الإقليمية، والثالث هو: سياسة باكستان حيال القضايا الإقليمية، والرابع هو: سياسة باكستان الإقليمية بعد المتغيرات الدولية وانتهاء الحرب الباردة
