"هذا الكتاب لا يتضمن تسجيلاً لكافة الأحداث التي عاصرتها وتعاملت معها من مواقع مختلفة من المسؤولية اعتباراً من عام 1948 حتى عام 1979، وهي فترة شاهدت خلالها أربعة حروب بين إسرائيل والدول العربية، وتابعت فيها مأساة فلسطين من جميع جوانبها السياسية والإنسانية. وعشت الصراع الذي خاضته الدول العربية للتخلص من الاستعمار والسيطرة الأجنبية.., وعاصرت الخلافات العربية التي وصلت في بعض الأحيان إلى الصدام المسلح... ولما كانت مأساة فلسطين التي عشتها منذ عام 1948 ظلت على الدوام شاغلي الأساسي ومحور تفكيري بصفة مستمرة... رأيت أن يقتصر هذا الكتاب على النزاع العربي الإسرائيلي الذي صاحب القضية الفلسطينية، وهو جوهر النزاع... وقد حاولت على قدر الإمكان، وعلى ضوء الممارسات الشخصية إيضاح المخاطر التي تهدد أمن الدول العربية، كما حاولت التذكير بأنه لا سبيل لدرء هذه المخاطر، إلا بالعودة إلى وحدة العمل العربي وفي ظل عمل منظم"..
