فجأة وهو غارق في بكاء نفسه المنكوبة، أدرك أنه يستطيع أن يرى! أن يدرك ما حوله على غير الصورة التي كان يتراءى فيها من مخيلته. إنه يرى مكاناً غريباً واسعاً ومضيئاً لا حدود له ولا تفاصيل ولا خطوط فاصلة. نظر مسرعاً إلى الأعلى محاولاً رؤية السماء متبيناً الأفق من الأرض، فوجد أن لا حدود بين السماء والأرض، بين المكان الذي يقف والمكان في الأعلى، كأنه داخل كرة سرمدية ممتزجة. وإن كانت كسماء في طور التشكّل. أمعن النظر في السماء التي تتبلور فإذا به يرى سحباً لأول مرة، وإن هي إلا لحظات حتى تلبّدت الغيوم فوقه ناثرة أمطارها. تابع مرتاعاً حبات المطر وهي تقترب من علٍ بسرعة رهيبة لم يعتدها في قطرات مطر. فإذا بها حبات من بشر! عشرات الوجوه والشخوص، مئات الهيئات والسحنات تهوي إليه بسرعة رهيبة كأنها تبغي أن تحطّ على رأسه. حتى تلاطمت عليه ومن حوله، فإذا هي وجوه يعرفها. أناس أحبهم، بشر قابلهم في صباه، أصدقاء الطفولة، أساتذة المدرسة، أصحاب المتاجر، أعداء المراهقة، شخوص قابلها على طرقات المساجد والمحلات تهوي إليه من السماء. يا إلهي، أَبَعْثٌ هذا ونُشور؟ أكنت ميتاً منذ دهور؟
