ظهرت الواقعية السحرية نتيجة لمجموعة من العوامل الفاعلة والمؤثرة من أهمها التطور الإبداعى العالمى فى الرواية والقصة. وتقوم الواقعية السحرية على ثلاثة ارتباطات أو جولنب أساسية, وهى: الجانب العجائبى الذى تمثل قصص ألف ليلة وليلة و "حواديت الجدات" ركيزته القوية, والجانب الأسطورى على نحو ما يقول خورخى لوس بورخيس "إن الأسطورة تقع فى بداية الأدب وفى منتهاه", والجانب السيريالى الذى كان بمثابة ثورة فى التحولات التى حدثت فى الأدب المعاصر.
وهذا الكتاب يحاول تقديم نماذج للواقعية السحرية فى الرواية العربية المعاصرة, فضلا عن دراسة جذور هذا التوجه فى التراث العربى الذاخر بالكثير من الكتابات التى تؤسس لهذا التيار فى الثقافة العالمية وفى إبداعنا العربى الحالى.
