يتحدث الكتاب عن "مقاتل" المسيحيين في العصور الأولى، وبخاصة على أيدي اليهود الذين لم يستسيغوا أن تنشأ ديانة جديدة تشكّل تهديداً لوجودهم، وهكذا مشبعين بعقلية رفض الآخر والرغبة بإلغاء الآخر وإفنائه، عمدوا إلى قتل "المعمدين" والتنكيل بهم في كل من نجران... وصولاً إلى مدينة القدس الشريف، وهي مركز الديانة المسيحية، وأم الكنائس جميعها، التي شهدت كذلك شتى أصناف التنكيل والمحارق. تتبعث الكتاب بنهم الجائع والعَطِش إلى معرفة الجذور ليس فقط للمسيحية وإنما أيضاً للعربية، وليس هناك من تناقض في الفخر ما بين كون الإنسان عربياً وكونه مسيحياً في آن واحد، وهو أمر لربما يشكّل رسالة تعزية وتشجيع إلى مسيحي اليوم الذين ما زالوا في المشرق العربي يضربون مثلاً تلو المثل في العيش المشترك مع إخوتهم المسلمين، مهما تعرضوا له أحياناً من أعمال تهجير على أيدي اليهود ذاتهم. كما في القدس وسائر القرى والمدن الفلسطينية، أو كذلك على أيدي أفراد وفئات تعادي المجتمع ككل، وتلبس رداء الدين وهو منها براء.
