وفي حقيقة الأمر، فإن هذا الكتاب يتناول الطغيان، لا الطاغية؛ لأنه يتحدث عن الطغيان ابتداء، وكيف تتورط النخب الكسيحة في صناعته. في مختلف مواقع المسؤولية وصنع القرار، هناك مكان لتلك النخب الزائفة التي تتضافر وتتضامن لحماية مصالحها وضمان استمرار نفوذها وسطوتها، وتساوم على القيم والإجراءات الديمقراطية، وتزين للطاغية ومسوخه المستنسخة عنه سوء عملهم، وتدفع الوطن باتجاه تكرار إخفاقات الماضي، وكل ذلك من أسباب نكبتنا في مصر المحروسة.
ستجد هؤلاء، من بطانة السوء وحملة المباخر ومروجي الشائعات والمتحالفين بالتواطؤ، خلف الميكروفونات وأمام عدسات المصورين وفي الكواليس، غارقين في لعب دور الجناة والضحايا على حد سواء. يتحالف هؤلاء بفجاجة مع المكون العسكري- الأمني، ويتورطون في التمكين للسيطرة السلطوية على الدولة والمجتمع، وقد يوظفون الدين في السياسة على نحو يختزل الأخيرة إلى صراع على الهوية ويناهض الحرية والمواطنة ويمهد للعنف.
