إن ماريان لودرير، هي أحد مؤسسي نظرية المعنى في الترجمة، حيث طورت هذه النظرية في المدرسة العليا للترجمة والمترجمين بباريس (ESIT) وتقضي بأن عملية الترجمة تظل هي نفسها، أياً كانت اللغات أو نوع النصوص، فالإنتقال من نص إلى فكر منعتق من اللفظ ومنه إلى نص آخر هو عملية مستقلة في حد ذاتها من اللغات ولا تختلف عن عملية القول أو فهم الكلام في فعل التواصل الأحادي اللغة.
والتأويل عملية ذهنية يخضع لها كل شيء ولا سيّما الترجمة وتعني فهم ما وراء الألفاظ ثم التعبير عن معنى منعتق من المادة اللغوية.
تتناول ماريان لودورير في هذا الكتاب النموذج التأويلي في الترجمة، حيث يُفعل الفهم في أبعاده الإجرائية التي تتداخل فيها عناصر لغوية وغير لغوية. فقراءة النص في لغته الأصلية، وقراءته مترجماً، هو تواصل مؤجّل يجعل من طبيعة النص بفعل القراءة والترجمة عالماً بحاجة إلى تحديد وتأويل كي يكشف عن معناه، أو بالأحرى عن معانيه الكثيرة.
ولقد جاء الكتاب مقسماً إلى قسمين كبيرين: يتناول القسم الأول المسائل النظرية ذات الصلة في حين يتطرق القسم الثاني إلى المسائل التطبيقية في الترجمة التي تقيم البيّنة على سير عملية الترجمة وِفاقاً لمفهوم التأويل. ويستهدف الكتاب الجمهور العريض من طلاب الترجمة، والأساتذة ممن يهتمون بتدريس الترجمة في الجامعات واللسانيين بشكل عام.
