في مجموعتها القصصية "شتاء آخر" بدت تغريد العلكمي كمن يرصد قدرة الذات على المقاومة، وبكل الوسائل، في محاولة لتعزيز روح الحياة فيها، فتتجه بمحكياتها باتجاه تفاصيل الحياة اليومية التي قد تمر بنا جميعاً أو بمن حولنا سواء الحالات الإنسانية كالفراغ واغتراب النفس والفقد، أو الحالات الإجتماعية كالبطالة والطموح أو الفشل، فانسابت النصوص حاملة في طياتها رحلات قصيرة تسبر أغوار النفس البشرية بتفاصيل معيشتها وما يصاحب التغيرات التي تتخلل هذه المعيشة/ الحياة من مشاعر وردود أفعال متفاوتة. ففي القصيدة التي وسمت عنوان المجموعة "شتاء آخر" تعزف الكاتبة على أوتار حنين أم باكية، وقد فقدت طفلها، ولم يعد يشاركها في اللعب بكرات الجليد، وتحت المطر، فلم يعد للشتاء معنى، ولم يعد هناك حاجة إلى الدفء، ولم يتبق شوى الحنين "مؤلم هذا الحنين تماماً كجرح مزمن أبى أن يندمل مع الوقت أو أن تبرد شدة حرقته مع السنين، في كل يوم أستجمع شجاعة نساء العالم، وأبتلع عبرات أوشكت على التدفق، وأرغم ذاتي على التظاهر بالتمرد عليه(...) والتمرد على ذاتي المنغمسة في تفاصيل انتظاره". هذا المنتج الروائي تقدمه تغريد العلكمي عبر راوٍ واحد، يختفي خلفه، وسرد بطيء الإيقاع مفعم بالشاعرية، يضفي على البنية الروائية شيئاً من السكون، سكون النفس في أشد حالاتها فراغاً بل اغتراباً. عناوين المجموعة: "حين يتمدد الفراغ"، "محاولات فاشلة للتدفئة"، "أرق"، "وداعاً أيتها البطالة"، "رسالة من مغتربة"، "حين تتعذر لوحة"، "مساء الجرح"، "حزن بنكهة القرفة"، "شتاء آخر"، "عندما تغترب الذات"، "واقع" "نقص مؤلم"، وأخيراً "حين انتهى العالم".
