لا شكّ أنّ القارئ العربيّ بحاجةٍ ماسّةٍ إلى الإطِّلاع على تراثه الفكريِّ العظيم المتمثِّل بالأدب والتاريخ والفلسفة والفقه وعلم الكلام وغيرِ ذلك من ميادين الثقافة والمعرفة.
وبما أن تحصيل هذه المعرفة الموسوعية المتكاملة لا يكادُ يُتاحُ إلّا لأفراد قلائل من ذوي العقول المتميِّزة والبصائر المتوقِّدة، كان لا بدَّ لنا من تقديم هذا التراث بشكلٍ مختصرٍ وجامعٍ في الوقت نفسهِ، بحيث يوافق هذا الإطارُ المقْتَرَحُ أكثريةَ القرّاء العرب، وخاصة طلابَ المراحل الثانوية والجامعية.
فكانت هذه السلسلةُ عن أعلام الأدب من نثر وشعر، تولَّى كتابتها مجموعةٌ من الإختصاصيين الذين تَحَرّوا فيها السلاسةَ في الأسلوب والعمقَ في التحليل والإختصارَ في المعلومات، بما يحقّق الهدفَ المنشودَ من إصدارها.
كما نشير إلى أننا - بالإضافة إلى هذه السلسلة التي بين يديك عن أعلام الأدباء والشعراء - أصدرنا، وسنصدر تباعاً إن شاء الله مجموعاتٍ أخرى عن أعلام الفكر العربي والغربي في مختلف الميادين المعرفية، بنفس الأسلوب والمنهج اللذين اتبعناهما في إصدار هذه السلسلة، والله من وراء القصد.
