ما بين دفتي هذا الكتاب دراسة في الشعر المذهبي العقائدي، وظاهرة العقيدة لدى الشاعر "الكميت بن زيد الأسدي" اعتمد فيها المؤلف على ما نقله الرواة والنقاد عن آراء الكميت السياسية، وما جاء به من النواحي الإبداعية والبيانية.
تأتي أهمية دراسة الكميت بن زيد الأسدي من كون شخصية تمثل رمزاً للشخصية العقائدية المثالية التي آمنت بالنظرية، ثم عملت على تحقيقها قولاً وفعلاً.
تقسم هذه الدراسة إلى أربعة فصول: جاء الفصل الأول للحديث عن أصول الكميت- نسب- أسرته- حياته- ثقافته- وانتماؤه السياسي. أما الفصل الثاني فجاء للحديث عن عقيدة الكميت. ويضم الفصل الثاني دراسة مقارنة بين شعره الذي قاله في الأمويين، وشعره الذي قاله في العلويين.ويأتي الفصل الرابع والأخير للحديث عن شعر الكميت في ميزان النقد الأدبي. وأخيراً خاتمة هي عبارة عن خلاصة لأهم ما توصل إليه الباحث وما توصل إليه الباحثون الآخرون حول الكميت.
