جاء على غلاف الكتاب «جانسَ (ريتسوس)، وعلى نحو غير قابل للنّقض، بين الشغف والشّعر، وبين عشق جسد المحبوبة وجسد العالم بوصفهما واحدًا. جسدها جسر يقوده إلى العالم الخارجيّ، ومن تجربته معها يستمدّ شجاعته للاستجابة- بحسّيّة إيروتكيّة على نحو ما- إلى كلّ تنوّع العالم، وإلى عناق هذا التنوّع أيضًا، دون أن يُخفق، على أيّة حال، في التّفريق بين الحقّ والباطل، متحمّلًا مسؤوليّات الإنسان بوصفه حيوانًا سياسيّاً. يتوجّب عليه أن يكرّس حياته: لمديح التنوّع اللّامتناهي لجسد العالم تارةً، ولإدانة كلّ ما هو باطل وشرّير تارةً أخرى. ولكنّه يدرك، مثلما أدرك شعراء كثيرون من قبله، بأنّ الحبّ أو الشغف الإيروتيكيّ يبدّد القوى الإبداعيّة مثلما يضاعفها أيضًا، ويصبح وفاءً/تحقُّقًا مكتفيًا بذاته. وآن يفترق حزينًا، محتفظًا بهالة ذلك التّحقُّق الذي يستطيع به أن يضيء حبّه للعالم، ولعمله بوصفه فنّاناً، يعرف الشاعر ضرورة إدانته لنفسه على تلك الوَحْدانيّة، وتلك العزلة، التي هي في الغالب قدر الشخص المبدع. فنراه، كتعويض [عن ذلك]، يلاطف العالم كما يلاطف جسد المحبوبة العاري، ثمّ يُزيّنه بكلام شهوانيّ. هكذا، وعلى الرّغم من أنّ ريتسوس قد كتب بضع قصائد «إيروتيكيّة»، أو قصائد «حبّ»، على وجه التخصيص، فإنّ إحساسًا كامنًا من حسّيّة يسري في شعره كلّه.» .. وهي مقطع من توطئة الشاعر كيمون فْرايار لطبعة الكتاب الإنكليزية التي ترجمها عن اليونانية، ومنها ترجم تحسين الخطيب، المترجم الفلسطيني المتميز، الكتاب إلى العربية.
