تتحدث الجغرافيا العسكرية عن المسرح العسكري البيئي وعن أهميته في بناء الجيوش وتحركاتها في السلم والحرب، فهي تعنى بذلك الجيوعسكري الذي غدا له القدرة لرفع مستوى الإمكانات العسكرية الذراع الطويل لإدارة الحرب المعاصرة ذات الديناميكية المضطردة التي لا يستغني عنه في التخطيط للحرب.
وإن الجيوعسكري (الجغرافيا العسكرية) تتناول البيئة (مكاناً ومجالاً) تلك التي تتم فوقها الحركات العسكرية كافة، وهي من المهام الأساس التي يجري الإيضاح منها.
وترتبط الجغرافيا العسكرية بالإستراتيجية الوطنية، فالأولى تحدد إتجاه القوى وأماكن النزاع، وتهتم الثانية بإستخدام القوى السياسية والإقتصادية والإجتماعية للدولة، وذلك لأن الحرب أو السلم ونتائجهما لا يقتصران على المكان وحده بل يتعديان ذلك إلى جميع مناحي الحياة.
وإن الحديث عن القوة العسكرية في مسرحها البيئي يدعو للكلام عن الجيوبولتكس وعن الجيوستارتيج، ومن هنا حدد الكاتب عنوان دراسته بــ"المسرح الجيوعسكري/ البداية الجيوبوليتكية والنهاية الجيوستراتيجية، وحدد فصوله بثمانية فصول هي: البنية النظرية للجغرافيا العسكرية وأطرها العسكرية، كفصل أول، والحرب وأنواعها ومجالاتها البيئية كفصل ثانٍ، أما الفصل الثالث فكان بعنوان، (العناصر الطبيعية وأثرها على العمليات العسكرية) بينما أكد الفصل الرابع على العناصر البشرية وتأثيرها على الحركات العسكرية، وأكد الفصل الخامس على إستراتيجيات الحرب وعناصر التفوق العسكرية، وخصص الفصل السادس للإفصاح عن (الأقاليم العسكرية) وتناول السابع عناصر قوة الدولة وإنعكاسها على قوتها العسكرية، وجاء الفصل الأخير بعنوان (التغير في أثر المسرح المكاني على نظام الجيوش والسلاح والتعبئة والسوق خلال التاريخ وبعض المعارك).
إذاً الجغرافيا تعد البوتقة الأساس للإستراتيجية العسكرية المسيطرة على الفكر العسكري للغرب طوال القرنين الثامن عشر والتاسع عشر، وهي ما زالت تحمل نفس الأهمية والأثر.
الكتاب محاولة للحديث عن كل ما يتربط بالقوات المسلحة، تاريخاً وحروب وفنون قتالية وبناء جيوش وأساليب تحرك وإقتصاد عسكري مع الإشارة إلى أنواع الأسلحة والإدارة والمعنويات وغيرها كثير.
