ومما لا شك فيه أن دور الجغرافية والجغرافيين في دراسة مثل هذه الأزمات والمشكلات الإيكولوجية العالمية واقتراح الحلول المناسبة لها ، يمكن أن يكون كبيراً من منطلق أن مشكلات البيئة ، ظهرت لأن عمليات الاجتماعية الإقتصادية لم تتطور بالشكل الذي يأخذ بالحسبان خصائص الوسط المحيط والتفاعلات التي تجري فيه والضغط البشري المصطنع الذي يقع عليه . وتقدم الجغرافية تصوراً محدداً لمسألة الأمن البيئي الوطني والإقليمي والعالمي ، وتأثير انتقال الملوثات عبر الحدود ، واستغلال الموارد الطبيعية على المستوى الإقليمي والعالمي ، ومدى كفاية هذه الموارد في تأمين حاجات البشرية الآن وفي المستقبل ( محمد سليمان 2009 ) .
وجاء هذا الكتاب حول جغرافية البيئة والتخطيط البيئي ، والذي جاء في بابين ، خصص الباب الأول لدراسة أسياسيات علم البيئة في خمسة فصول ، أما الباب الثاني فقد تخصص في موضوع التخطيط البيئي ، وقد جاء في ستة فصول خُصصت الثلاث الأولى منها للدراسة البيئية تخطيطاً وإدارةً وهيكلةً ، وبُني الرابع والخامس كدليل لدراسات بيئية في مجال الصناعة والسياحة ، وخصص الفصل الأخير للمعايير والتشريعات البيئية .
