الإنسان بطبعه يبحث عن تفسير للظواهر الخارقة التي تقع خارجاً عن مألوفه، وقد لا يجد الإنسان العادي تفسيراً لهذه الظواهر الخارقة للعادة، وهناك من يحاول أن يفسر هذه الخوارق فيقع في الخطأ فلا يميز بين السحر والمعجزة، وقد أراد المؤلف من خلال بحث هذا الكتاب أن يسلط الضوء على خوارق العادات ومصادرها، وأحوال أصحابها، حيث ركز على ظاهرة السحر، فوضع حقيقة وأقوال العلماء فيه لتفشي هذه الظاهرة وانسياق الكثيرين وراءها، وترددهم على الدجالين والمشعوذين، حتى توهم البعض أن هذا الضرب من الكهانة له صلة بالدين، ويوضح المؤلف من خلال البحث أن اهتمام السحر من المنظور الديني، تدل على ضعف الإيمان ونقص اليقين والثقة بالله تعالى. ومن هنا كان موضوع هذا الكتاب يتصل بمسألة العقيدة اتصالاً مباشراً ووثيقاً، لذا يحذر من الانزلاق إلى الكفر والفسق، ويفضح مخازي السحرة والمشعوذين.
