صدر هذا الكتاب عن مطابع الجمعية العلمية الملكية في عمان عام 1990م ، لصالح الكليات المتوسطة التابعة لوزارة التربية والتعليم وشؤون الشباب في سلطنة عُمان. يتكون الكتاب من أربع وحدات تدريسية كبيرة. وقد تناولت الوحدة الأولى مفهوم المنهج التقليدي والحديث والإسلامي والنظامي وخصائصها وآثارها التربوية المتنوعة، في حين ركزت الوحدة الثانية على أسس المناهج الفلسفية والمعرفية والنفسية والاجتماعية، بينما اهتمت الوحدة التدريسية الثالثة بعملية تخطيط المناهج العمانية وبنائها، في الوقت الذي دارت الوحدة الرابعة والأخيرة حول تقويم المناهج وتطويرها والكتاب المدرسي ودليله.
