القداس الإلهي هو خروج من هذا العالم، وارتقاء إلى السماء. والمذبح المقدَّس هو رمز هذا الارتقاء ووسيلة تحقيقه. فالمسيح صعد إلى سماء الأسرار، وسماء الأسرار هي الكنيسة. وبالقداس الإلهي في الكنيسة نبلغ المسيح حياة الكنيسة وخبرتها وإيمانها. وسرُّ الإفخارستيَّا هو سرٌّ تحوطه الهيبة والجلال، وتتباين طقوسه البديعة بين كنيسة وأخرى، إلا أنه يمارَس في كل منها وسط أجواء من القُدسيَّة، بأيقونات وشموع وبخور وألحان، وسجود وقيام، وركوع وبسط يدين، وإحناء رأس ورفع عينين إلى السماء، مصحوبة كلُّها بنصوص ليتورجيَّة تتَّفق في خطوطها الأساسيَّة الأوليَّة بغاية الإتقان. والكتاب الذي بين يديك قارئي العزيز إن كان يشير أحياناً إلى الجانب اللاهوتي أو الروحي للقدَّاس الإلهي، إلا أنه يركِّز أساساً على الجانب الطقسي العملي، أي الترتيب الطقَّسي للقداس الإلهي، كيف كان شكله الأوَّلي البسيط؟، وكيف تطوَّرت ممارسته الطقسية حتى صارت إلى ما هي عليه الآن؟. وهذا الجزء الأوَّل يحدِّثك عن طقس تقديم الحَمَل، وطقس قدَّاس الموعوظين، أي قدَّاس الكلمة، إلى جانب مقدِّمات عامة عن القداس الإلهي
