كتاب "الشهيد الخالد الحسين بن عليّ عليه السلام" الذي صدرت أول طبعه له في إيران عام 1951م، ثم أعيدت طباعته ثماني عشرة مرَّرة، واعتبر من أهم الكتب التي تناولت حركة الإمام الحسين بن علي عليه السلام وواقعة كربلاء بصورة علميّة وتحليل إستدلاليّ ناقش فيه مؤلّفه آية الله الشيخ نعمة الله صالحي نجف آبادي - من علماء الشيعة الإمامية المجتهدين في إيران والمدرِّسين البارزين في الحوزة الدينية في قم - أسباب الحركة الحسينيّة ودوافعها وماهيّتها ومراحلها وأهدافها ونتائجها وآثارها، مقدِّماً قراءةً جديدةً تتعارض كليّاً مع القراءة التي تقدِّمها الرواية الشيعية المغالية والعاطفية الرائجة من قرون.
اعتبر أغلب الباحثين الإيرانيين كتاب "الشهيد الخالد" من أهم الكتب التي ناقشت قضية الحسين عليه السلام، ببُعديها السياسي والإجتماعي، ومن أكثر الكتب المثيرة للجدل في تاريخ إيران المعاصر.
آثار نشره ردود أفعال مختلفة ومعركةً من الآراء بين مخالف وموافق، وبدأت الكتابات في الردّ عليه حتى وصل مجموع ما كتب في نقده او الردِّ عليه إلى ثلاثة عشر كتاباً.
ومن البديهي أن لا يقبل علماء الدين التقليديون المحافظون مثل هذا النقد الحرّ لأحاديث مشهورة ولكتب الرواية والتراث التي أصبحت جزءاً لا يتجزأ من التراث الشيعي، ومن الواضح أنهم يخشون أن يؤدي فتح هذا الباب إلى الإتيان على قسم كبير من التراث الروائيِّ الإماميِّ الذي يفتقر في مجمله إلى الثقة العلمية بصدوره كونه في مجمله أخبار معظمها يفتقر إلى الأسانيد الصحيحة المتصلة القويمة، مما يقدِّم دعماً للناقدين العصريين الذين يرون أن التراث الروائي والأخباري - يحتاج إلى غربلة شاملة وإعادة نظر كونه امتلأ عبر القرون بالوضع والدسّ والخرافات والقصص الأسطورية والرومانسية والأحاديث التي أملتها الصراعات السياسية والأهواء المذهبية في قرون الإسلام الأولى.
