برزت المسالة الكردية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط خلال العقود الأولى من القرن التاسع عشر، ولم تفقد حدّتها إلى يومنا هذا. ويكمن في أساس هذه المسألة النضال التحرري للشعب الكردي الذي عرف الصعود والهبوط لكنه لم يتوقف أبداً. فلم يتمكن الأكراد من تحقيق نجاح حاسم في كردستان كلها ولا في أجزاء معينة منها. كما أنَّ أعداء حرية الأكراد لم يتمكنوا بدورهم من إخماد الحركة القومية الكردية نهائياً. وتظل جميع الأسباب الرئيسة التي تغذّي هذه الحركة قائمة جاعلة من المسألة الكردية أحد العوامل الدائمة والمؤثرة على الوضع السياسي الداخلي والخارجي في الشرقين الأوسط والأدنى. ويعالج هذا الكتاب، الأطر الزمنية للمسألة الكردية، والمحددة بالتحولات الاقتصادية والسياسية والأيديولوجية، سواء في كردستان والمجتمع الكردي، أم في البلدان التي يعيش فيها الأكراد، وبالتطورات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية في العالم بأسرهن والتغيرات الجارية في العلاقات الدولية، وخاصة البلدان التي لها مصالح في الشرق الأوسط.
