يصادف صدور هذا الكتاب مناسبة مرور ثلاثين عاماً على زيارة الرئيس المصري السابق الصادمة إلى إسرائيل في تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر عام 1977، والتي فتحت باب «التطبيع» مع إسرائيل على مصراعيه، فدلفت منه العديد من النظم العربية فرادى وجماعات عبر المفاوضات الثنائية والمتعددة الأطراف، ومن خلال الاتفاقيات والتفاهمات.
وفي هذه الحقبة التي بدأت بـ «بشارة» السلام الزائف، ووهم الرفاه الاقتصادي المفقود اللذين أطلقتهما إسرائيل والولايات المتحدة والنظم العربية المسماة بـ «المعتدلة»، تعهدت معظم النظم العربية بأن تكون حرب تشرين الأول/أكتوبر آخر الحروب، لكن فاتها أن إسرائيل كانت دائماً هي التي تشنّ الحروب، وأنها سوف تواصل استراتيجيتها بثبات في ظل مزاعم السلام، كما من دونها.
يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تقييم أبعاد التطبيع الحاصل بين بعض البلدان العربية وإسرائيل، والمدى الذي بلغه على المستويين الثنائي والإقليمي، وتطور آلياته، وجهود الحركة الشعبية لمناهضته، والتحديات التي تواجهها هذه الحركة. وقد تناول الكتاب موضوعه عبر خمسة فصول، تعرض ثلاثة منها لأبعاد التطبيع السياسي والاقتصادي والثقافي، ويعرض الفصل الرابع لمخاطر التطبيع على الأمن القومي العربي، بينما يتناول الفصل الخامس قضية المقاطعة ومقاومة التطبيع.
