تكمن أهمية هذا المعجم في كثافة مادته وفي المنهجية التي اعتمدها والتي كانت على الشكل التالي: تضمين مفردات اللغة العربية جميع الكلمات والمصطلحات والعبارات المعاصرة والحديثة والتي يتوفر فيها عنصر الشيوع والتداول، الاهتمام بالمفردات والمصطلحات الخاصة بشتى العلوم والمعارف، إسقاط الألفاظ التي باتت بحكم التطور مهجورة أو مماتة، إضافة المعاني الجديدة التي اكتسبتها كلمات معروفة سابقاً، وإلحاقها بالمعاني القديمة لتلك الكلمات، تفريع الكلمة الواحدة إلى فروع يختص كل منها بمعنىً مستقل من المعاني، الاهتمام بالعبارات الاصطلاحية التي توضح مغالق الكلام حيث يورد بعض الجمل والعبارات التي تبين طريقة استعمال المفردة واكتسابها مدلولاً خاصاً في سياق الجملة، إعطاء كل لفظة عربية حقها الوافي من مقابلاتها الإيطالية والمترادفات وعدم الاكتفاء بكلمة أو اثنتين من الكلمات الإيطالية كشرح مقابل للفظة العربية، اعتماد الترتيب الألفبائي النطقي بحيث لا يعود القارئ إلى جذر الكلمة.
