ليس المنطق الرياضي أو المنطق الحديث علماً جديداً من مناهج الفكر يقوم الى جانب المنطق القديم أو التقليدي، بل هو الصورة الأكمل والأشمل لعمليات الاستدلال الصوري وهو بالتالي يستوعب مفاهيم وطرق المنطق القديم وبالطبع يتجاوزها في عدة أمور منها دقة التعريفات وصرامة الصياغة الرمزية ويقينية الاستدلال وتعدد مجالات التطبيق الخ.ولا شك أن المنطق الرياضي يشكل اليوم وسيلة لا غنى عنها لكثير من العلوم. فبالإضافة إلى أنه يقوّم الهيكلية الأساسية للمعرفة الفلسفية المعاصرة فالحاجة ليه لتأسيس الرياضيات وبعض العلوم الجازمة هي من الضروريات. وكذلك أصبحت الفائدة كبيرة في الإستعانة به في المعارف الإنسانية وخصوصاً اللسانية منها، الذي أخذت تتحرى طرائقه الموثوق منها.هذا الكتاب الذي تبنته أغلب الجامعات العربية، يعرض بالفصل أصول هذا العلم في آخر تطوراته. وعلى وجه الخصوص يتناول بالبحث منطق القضايا ومنطق المحمولات اللذين يعتبران الركنين الأولين اللذين يعتمد عليهما كل بناء ضروري.
