جاء هذا الكتاب كي يلقي الضوء على أبرز المفاهيم التي تتناول علاقة منظمات الأعمال مع بيئتها، الإدارة الإستراتيجية وطرح طرائق (بدائل) التصرف أزاء أي من المواقف التي تواجه مديري المنظمات بالإستفادة من الإرث المتراكم للمنظمات الرائدة. تتكون هيكلية هذا الجهد المتواضع من ثلاثة عشر فصلا خصص الفصلان الأول والثاني منهما لبيان المفاهييم الرئيسية والأساسية للفكر الأستراتيجي بشكل خاص والأدارة الأستراتيجية بشكل عام، وتطرق الفصلان الثالث والرابع إلى أنواع البيئة التنظيمية ومكوناتها وأساليب التحليل المعتمدة فيها وأخذت الفصول الثلاث الاحقة على عاتقها تأطير ملامح التوجة الإستراتيجي لمنظمات الأعمال من حيث عمليات تحديد الروؤية الأستراتيجية ورسالة المنظمة وأهدافها، وتناول الفصل السابع عملية الأختيار الأستراتيجي بمراحلها وأدواتها كي يمهد الطريق أمام ثلاثة فصول لاحقة هي الثامن والتاسع والعاشر التي أهتمت بالمستويات الثلاث للإستراتيجية وهي أستراتيجية المنظمة وإستراتيجية الأعمال والأستراتيجية الوظيفية على التوالي أما الفصل الحادي عشر والثاني عشر فقد أهتما بالمرحلتين الأخيرتين من عملية الإدارة الإستراتيجية وأخيرا جاء الفصل الثالث عشر ليلقي الضوء على تجارب منظمات مختلفة بقصد الأستفادة منها ومحاولة تضمين ما تم قرائتة في الفصول السابقة في الواقع العملي.
