تحظى فرق العمل بأهمية إستثنائية في عالم الأعمال في الوقت الراهن لما لها من دور مهم وحرج في نجاح المنظمات على مختلف أشكالها وتخصصاتها وفلسفاتها الإدارية، فالمنظمات أضحت أكثر من أي وقت مضى إدراكاً لأمية مغادرة التصاميم التنظيمية القائمة على أساس الهرمية والإستعاضة عنها بالتصاميم الأفقية المستندة إلى توزيع السلطة بين مختلف المستويات التنظيمية وتمكين الأفراد.
لقد جاء هذا الجهد البسيط كي يسلط الضوء على مفهوم فرق العمل والمفاهيم الفرعية المرتبطة بها وأسس عملها أملاً في سد جزء من النقص الشديد الذي تعاني منه المكتبة العربية في هذا الجانب المهم.
اعتمد هذا الجهد على أكثر من مائة وخمسون كتاباً ودراسة أكاديمية متخصصة بهذا الشأن مبوبة ضمن خمسة فصول تخصص الفصل الأول منها بتأطير مفاهيمي لفرق العمل وإستعراض أهميتها في الواقع العملي فضلاً عن بيسان أبرز الفروقات بين فرق العمل والمجموعات.
وتفرد الفصل الثاني بإستعراض أسس بناء فرق العمل وأنواعها وخصائص الفاعلة منها، واهتم الفصل الثالث بفاعلية فرق العمل من حيث المفهوم والأبعاد والقابليات والرضا، وجاء الفصل الرابع لبيان مفهوم أداء الفريق وسبل إدارة الأداء في فرق العمل على مختلف أنواعها، وأخيراً عرض الفصل الخامس ما تيسر الحصول عليه من وجهات نظر بشأن أبعاد أداء الفريق مع التركيز على ثلاثة مقاييس رئيسية تميزت بكونها الاكثر شيوعاً في الأدب الإداري ذو الصلة لقياس أداء فرق العمل وهي: إنتاجية الفريق وجودته وكفاءته.
