حتى نطلق على الصعوبة فى التواصل اضطرابا لابد أن يكون هناك خطأ فى عملية إرسال الرسائل واستقبالها، ولابد أن يؤثر هذا الخطأ على الطفل ويجعله فى وضع صعب تعليميا وأجتماعيا، وكذلك إذا أثرت هذه الصعوبة عل النمو الانفعالى للطفل، وعلى تعامل الطفل مع الآخرين بحيث يكونون اتجاها سلبيا نحوه. وقد استطعت بتوفيق من الله- وماتوفيقى إلا بالله-أن أقوم بتجميع أكثر من 2000 مصطلح كلها تدور حول اضطرابات التواصل وعيوب الكلام واضطرابات النطق وما إلى ذلك، ولا أزعم أننى قمت بهذه المهمة على أكمل وجه، فلا تزال مصطلحات أخرى يمكن إضافتها من هنا وهناك ولذلك أقول لطلابى وطالباتى مرارا أن المعجم كائن حى أتمنى له النمو المتكامل فى طبعات- بمشيئة الله- لا ريب قادمة وهاهو قد ولد ولابد للمولود من الرعاية. لقد كان جمع المصطلحات مهمة شاقة استغرقت منى أكثر من عام حتى أتممتها على النحو الذى عليه المعجم الآن. وأرجو أن أكون قد أسهمت فى تزويد كل من لهم صلة بمجال اضطرابات التواصل من الباحثين فى المجال، والمهنيين المتخصصين، ومن الطلاب، والطالبات، ومن المهتمين به ضمن مجالات أخرى من اهتماماتهم بأداة تعينهم على فهم المعانى والكلمات والمصطلحات المتداولة فيه فى يسر وسهولة. وقد اتبعت فى عروض المصطلحات الترتيب المتعارف عليه فى الأحرف الإنجليزية، بحيث يستطيع مستخدم المعجم الذى يود التعارف على معنى بعض المصطلحات الإنجليزية أن يتتبع موقعها فى الحرف الذى تبدأ به، وهذا لمن يفتح المعجم ليعرف معنى المصطلح الإنجليزى باللغة العربية، وفى المقابل تم تجميع المصطلحات باللغة العربية بأحرف الأبجدية العربية وفق ترتيبها المتعارف عليه؛ بحيث يستطيع مستخدم المعجم الذى يود معرفة المقابل الأجنبى للمصطلح العربى أن يتتبعها فى الحرف العربى الذى تبدأ به، وفى هذا مزيد من السهولة فى الاستدلال على المصطلحات الأجنبية من خلال المصطلحات العربية. وقد اقتضت طبيعة اضطرابات التواصل بما تتضمنه من اضطرابات فى النطق وعيوب الكلام وأمراض التخاطب أن نوضح بعض المصطلحات بإرفاق شكل لها ولذلك حفل المعجم بالعديد من الأشكال التوضيحية والصور التى تساعد من يستخدمه على بيان مضمون المصطلح إلى حد كبير.
