كانت الجزائر ترزح تحت نير الاستعمار ولم يكن بها إلا جامعة واحدة أسسها المحتل لأبنائه ولنشر لغته وثقافته وأقصى عنها ابن الوطن الأصلى ولغته فكانت العربية غريبة فى عقر دارها كما يقال محظورة على أهلها فى كل مرحلة من مراحل التعليم ، إلا ما خدم مصالح الاستعمار أو سمح به لذر الرماد فى العيون وبخاصة فى الفترة الوجيزة التى أعقبت الحرب العالمية الثانية. عقد الشعب الجزائرى العزم على خوض غمار حرب طويلة مريرة حرر فيها أرضة واستعاد هويته وأصالته وأعاد لغته مكانتها وشيد المدراس والجامعات وسن فيها البحث العلمى وهو ماض فى تحسين هذا البحث والتشجيع عليه وكان الجزائرى فى عهد جد قريب يعتز برؤية أثر أدبى أو علمى لبعض مواطنيه فلما انتشر التعليم وتعددت الجامعات دبت الروح العلمية فى النفوس وسرى الطموح فى أساتذة التعليم العالى ونمت حركة التأليف وتأسست المنظامت الثقافية فى الجمهورية الجزائرية وتوطدت الصلة بين المشارقة والمغاربة من أبناء الوطن العربى.
