كان الكتاب الوحيد الذي اصطحبه جبران خليل جبران من أمريكا إلى لبنان يوم عاد ليدرس في معهد "الحكمة" هو كتاب "سفر الأناجيل"... ويوم عاد من باريس إلى بوسطن كان الكتاب الوحيد الذي حوته حقيبته هو كتاب "هكذا حدّث زرادشت" للفيلسوف الألماني فريدريك نيتشه. إن هذين المشهدين يعكسان مرحلتين كبيرتين من مراحل الفكر الجبراني ويمثلان تيارين مختلفين كان لهما أكثر الأثر في تكوينه وتوجيهه. ويجمع بين الكتابين فكرة النبوة التي يمثلها بطلاهما "يسوع المصلوب" و"زرادشت المجنون". وقد شغلت فكرة النبوة جبران خليل جبران وكانت بمثابة الهاجس الذي لا يفارقه، لذلك نتساءل متى اكتملت نبوة البطل الجبراني وكيف اتضحت معالمها وتحققت شروطها؟ إلا أنه يوجد بين هذين النبيين اللذين يتخذهما البطل الجبراني مثلين أعليين، فروق كثيرة، فيسوع المصلوب رمز الوداعة والطهر والحب والألم، صلب من أجل الآخرين ومات حاملاً عنهم خطاياهم حسب الأناجيل. وزرادشت أو "نيتشه" رمز القوة والهدم والكره والازدراء، ثار على الناس وعلى جميع مقاييسهم وموازينهم ومفاهيهم. وليس ما يثير الاستغراب والتعجب كون النبيين على طرفي نقيض فحسب، بل إن المجنون يتخذ من المصلوب عدوّه الأول والألد ويوجه إليه سهام عدائية ويعلن عليه الحرب فيجعله "مسمماً للحياة" ويتسمى بـ"المسيح الضد". فكيف استطاع البطل الجبراني أن يتأثر بالشيء ونقيضه؟ بل كيف استطاع أن يجمع بينهما في آن واحد إذ نراه يكتب عن يسوع في الفترة التي كان يخضع فيها للتأثير النيتشي؟ وتفرض عدة تساؤلات أخرى نفسها، فما هي دوافع التأثر بكل شخصية من الشخصيتين وما هي مراحله؟ ثم لماذا تأثر البطل الجبراني بالمجنون بعد أن كان تأثر بالمصلوب وجعله مثله الأعلى ودليله الأوحد؟ وهل استطاع المجنون أن يعوض المصلوب فعلاً ويحتل مكانة داخل فكر جبران نفسه؟ وهل أن تأثير نيتشه كان عابراً في الفكر الجبراني أم أنه ترك آثاراً لا تمحى؟ تساؤلات عديدة تثيرها كلمتا "مصلوب" و"مجنون" يحاول الباحث تلمسها كما في أعمال جبران خليل جبران، كذلك في حياته التي ترددت فيها هاتان الكلمتان.
