قال عنه رائد المقال الفرنسي "مونتين" إنه أثار شهيّته لبلوغ سن الشيخوخة، في حين قال "جون آدامز" وهو من الآباء المؤسسين للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، إنه استمتع بإعادة قراءة هذا الكتاب مرّات عديدة في سنوات عمره الأخيرة، وقال "بنيامين فرانكلين" إن الكتاب بَهَره إلى الحد الذي جعله يأمر بطباعة ترجمته في فيلاديلفيا في عام 1744.
إن عالم اليوم المفتون بالسعي إلى الحفاظ على الشباب يحتاج إلى حكمة "شيشرون" أكثر من أي وقت مضى.
