يأخذ الكتاب القارئ في رحلة عبر مسارات للزيارة وبمصاحبة الصور الفوتوغرافية القديمة والحديثة ، لاقتفاء أثر العناصر المعمارية الفرعونية الباقية بالمنشآت الإسلامية بمدينة القاهرة، تلك المدينة العريقة والعتيقة بتاريخها وتراثها الأثري المصري القديم والإسلامي ، الأمر الذي يشير إلى التفاعل بين مصر القديمة المتمثل فى عمارتها ، وبين منشآت مصر الإسلامية، حيث تقع مدينة القاهرة بتراثها المعماري الإسلامي البارز وبين الأنقاض الأثرية لمدينتي منف وعين شمس القديمة .
