لقد انصرف الناس إلى البحث عن معنى لحياتهم وضوء في مستقبلهم خارج محيط تلك البيئة المحدودة الضيقة وذات الأفق الاقتصادي والتنموي شبه المسدود في مدينة أبها وقراها.
عزز ذلك تعزيزًا مرعبًا ظهور وسائل الحياة الجديدة التي تعمل على حساب إزاحة تقاليد أو أساليب الحياة القديمة التي اعتدناها في نشأتنا.
ومن واقع الإيمان بأن الطبيعة بدورها لا بد أن تتفاعل مع هذا كله، فما حدث ويحدث للطبيعة والغطاء النباتي في عسير الآن، يمكن تفسيره في سياق ما حدث من تحولات اجتماعية ماثلة في شخصية المكان، وظواهرها الاجتماعية.
فكان تجريف التربة الذي تعانيه عسير عمومًا بسبب الانتشار والزحف العمراني والتعامل الجائر مع الطبيعة فضًلا عن التطورات المناخية الحديثة، وغيرها من الأسباب، كان تجريفًا بيئيًا وإنسانيًا على حد سواء..
