ترجع أصول هذه السيرة إلى أحد أهم المؤرخين والإخباريين وكُتّاب التاريخ ورواة الأخبار والوقائع والسير الأوائل سيف بن عمر التميمي المتوفي عام 180هــ تقريبًا.
قام بجمع هذه السيرة مع التصرف بها والإضافة عليها أحد طلاب العلم في نجد وفي مدينة الرياض الشيخ سليمان بن سحيم العارضي المتوفي سنة 1181هــ.
تعدّ هذه السيرة أول عمل تاريخي يؤرّخ للأحداث التاريخية ويستعرض المعارك العسكرية التي وقعت أحداثها بعد وفاة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم.
جاءت أحداث هذه السيرة عن معارك اليمامة، خصوصًا البلدات الواقعة على وادي حنيفة ضمن بلاد العارض، وتفاصيلها وأبرز الوقائع الحربية التي جرت فيها مع تحديد مواضع تلك المعارك وأسماء بلدانها التي ما زال كثير منها معروفًا حتى اليوم.
انفردت هذه السيرة بذكر أسماء الشخصيات من الأطراف المختلفة وأبرزت الدور المهم للقائد الكبير خالد بن الوليد وثمامة بن أثال الحنفي وغيرهما.
المستعرض لهذه السيرة يجد توافقًا كبيرًا مع المصادر بل في الإضافات الجديدة والأخبار النادرة التي تفيد الباحثين ودارسي التاريخ.
