تربة بلدة نجد الحجازية التي يحتضنها جبلها العملاق “حضن” من ناحية، وواديها الشهير “تربة” من ناحية أخرى، بلدة التاريخ العريق التي قدّر لها الله ثم الظروف السياسية المحيطة “محلية ودولية” طوال قرنين من الزمان (12 - 13هـ / 18 - 19م) أن تكون ميدانًا حاسمًا للصراع النجدي الحجازي “السعودي الشريفي” ونتائجه العظيمة، فكان دور تلك البلدة لا يقل في ذلك عن دور جارتها الخرمة التي كانت الشرارة الأولى لذلك الخلاف، وهدفًا للحملات العسكرية الشريفية خاصة زمن الملك عبد العزيز بن عبد الرحمن آل سعود.
وفي ثنايا هذا الكتاب الذي يعدّ الإصدار الأول المتفرد بدراسة تاريخ تربة السياسي بأحداثه وأدواره التاريخية المتحولة، خاصةً في ميزان القوى المتنافسة، ودخول الحجاز تحت الحكم السعودي خلال عهديه الأول والثالث وبنفس الملاحم العظام... إذ يسترسل المؤلف من خلاله في سرد تكاملي متناسق يبدأ بالتعريف بتربة المنطقة، ومن ثم أسباب وأحداث اشتعال نار الخلافات النجدية الحجازية الحدودية بها وبما حولها من مناطق النزاع الحدودي، منذ أن زحفت الحملات المصرية - العثمانية على تربة فكانت جسارتها وغطرستها وبالًا ودمارًا عليها خلال سنتي (1228 - 1229هـ / 1813 - 1814م) إلى أن توقفت تلك الملاحم الجسام في (شعبان 1337هـ / أيار / مايو 1919م) بمعركة أو كسرة تربة الحاسمة التي تميز بمزيد إيضاحها وتفصيلها هذا الإصدار، مع استطراد للدور الفاعل لقبائل المنطقة الحدودية من جهة، وقوة الملك عبد العزيز النافذة آنذاك المسماة “الإخوان” من جهة أخرى.
كذلك مما يميز هذا الكتاب الدراسة التحليلية النقدية العميقة، خاصةً للدور البريطاني المتلون في تلك النزاعات والصراعات الحدودية في ظل مصالحها “قبل وأثناء وبعد” الحرب العالمية الأولى، مع تركيز واضح على المادة الوثائقية الوفيرة والمتنوعة حول الدراسة “محلية، ومصرية، وعثمانية، وبريطانية، وفرنسية، وهولندية”، وكذلك الروايات الشفهية المهمة لعدد كبير من الأبناء والأحفاد لأولئك الذين عاصروا تلك الأحداث أو كانوا قريبي العهد بها فحفظوها عن ظهر قلب ونقلوها.
