يسلط الكتاب الضوء على أحداث ذات أهمية في التاريخ الحديث حينما يتناول الوجود العثماني في شمال الجزيرة العربية خلال الفترة من عام 1908 إلى عام 1923 م وهي فترة عززت الدولة العثمانية من وجودها في الشمال الغربي للجزيرة العربية وكذلك شمال البحر الأحمر، وأقامت خط السكة الحديدية.
تكونت هذه الدراسة من تمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، تم في التمهيد توصيف جغرافية منطقة الدراسة، وتحديد مفهوم شمال الجزيرة العربية ومن ثم تناول تاريخ الوجود العثماني هناك، وتناول الفصل الاول من الدراسة الحاميات العثمانية في الشمال الغربي من الجزيرة العربية، والوجود العثماني في شمال البحر الأحمر، ومشروع سكة حديد الحجاز واثره في منطقة الدراسة، ثم امارة آل رشيد وآل الشعلان ودورهما في الاحداث التي جرت خلال فترة الدراسة، وموقف الدولة العثمانية من الامارات العربية في المنطقة، بينما ركز الفصل الثاني على قيام الحرب الاولى ودور الدولة العثمانية والموقف العربي منها، وسياسة بريطانيا في شمال الجزيرة العربية وما قدمه العرب في المنطقة من مساندة للحلفاء اثناء الحرب، ثم هزيمة الدولة العثمانية وخروجها من المنطقة، واثر ذلك عليها، وجاء الفصل الثالث تحت عنوان «انتهاء الوجود العثماني» لدراسة اتفاقيات الحرب العالمية الاولى السرية واثرها، ثم نهاية الحرب، وما اعقبها من مؤتمرات صلح ذات نتائج وخيمة على الدولة العثمانية منها التدخل البريطاني المباشر في المشرق العربي، ثم دراسة الموقف العربي من الوجود العثماني بعد انتهاء الحرب وتراجع وسقوط الدولة العثمانية في نهاية اسفرت عن تغيير موازين القوى، والخريطة السياسية ليس لمنطقة الدراسة فحسب وانما للمشرق العربي كله.وقد توصلت الدراسة في النهاية الى نتائج هامة وثرية تضمنتها خاتمة مركزة تغني المطلع عليها عن الخوض في التفاصيل الا اذا كان مختصاً لا يشبع نهمه العلمي الا دقائق الامور.
