لم يأت أحد، ولن يأتي، أليس كذلك؟ لن يأتي إلا الحزن...حزن يخلفه حزن...أيها الحزن السرمدي الصامت قتلت أرواح من أحبوا بصدق...قتلت كل شيء فيهم...قتلت جبال اللوز الأبيض...قتلت شتاءهم البديع الذي يشبه قلوبهم النقية. أيها الحزن ...قتلت أبي. أيها الحزن... قتلت سليمان. أيها الحزن... قتلت منصور... أيها الحزن...إقتلها...إقتلها. وتردد العجوز:" منصور آخر من يموت من أولادي"
تتداخل المشاعر حب وكراهية وأمل ويأس وفرح وحزن. ويبقى منصور ذلك التائه في لجج اللآلام الموجعة ومصدرحا صدام حسين ووجه أمه. فكلاهما مصدر تعاسته وحزنه ووعده وموعوده يظهران له في ساعة نومه كل ليلة، ليوقظاه وهما يضحكان من خوفه وفزعه. تتلاحق الأحداث،وتغرق الحياة منصور في دوامته، وقصة حب يعيشها إلا أن ذلك كله لم يخلصه من تلك العقدة المتجذرة في نفسه والتي ساقته الى متاهات الغربة والعذاب.
