في جديده الأدبي "حكايات مشلح" يمارس الروائي السعودي عبد المجيد حسين تمراز متعة الحكي، في إخباره بحكايات مشلح التي يتوالد بعضها من بعض ويترك لنا متعة الاستماع ويفعل ذلك بواسطة راوٍ عليم وإذ نحن بإزاء حكايات أو مسارات سردية "متوازية" تفترق وتتقاطع غير أن نقاط التقاطع أقل من نقاط الافتراق، وإن كانت جميع الحكايات تدور تحت سقف الحياتي/ المعيش كما هو في الحياة اليومية بحيث لا يخلو النص من سخرية مرّة هنا، ومرّة هناك، واستخدام تراكيب ومفردات محلية، وأمثالاً شعبية مطعمة بلغة سردية مباشرة مع شيء من التصوير والتنظير والتحليل والمقارنة التي تعكس براعة الحائك وفنّه وطول أناته.
قدم للمجموعة بـ "كلمة عن الكتاب والكاتب" كل من الروائي الكويتي طالب الرفاعي والأديب وفيق وهبي؛ فبينما اعتبر الرفاعي أن "المجموعة تتناول قضايا اجتماعية شاخصة بما يؤكد على ارتباط الفن بالحياة، حيث أفكارها ذات منحى إنساني وهذا عنصر مهم في الكتابة الإبداعية..." جاء تعليق وفيق وهبي ليؤكد أيضاً أن "قمة الإبداع أن تحكي عن الأشياء البسيطة بكلمات بسيطة لكنها تثير قي الوجدان الجمعي مزيجاً من النقمة والسخرية في آن معاً. فأن يكون "مشلح" بطلاً لحكايات متعددة الوجوه والأشكال، فلا شك آنذاك أن قدرة فنية مميزة وقادرة على حشد وشحن كل الإمكانات لإبداع الرمز، وحيث الدلالات والإشارات تصاغ في قالب من التهكم المثير."
